Covid-19 virus has effective Americans all around the country, as Americans have to stay at home. The gaming industry has had a large increase of players online and the new first person battle royal multiplayer game mode by Activision, Call of Duty: Warzone coming out on March 10th, 2020 has made a huge spark around the gaming industry. Call of Duty: Warzone has brought in over 30 million players in just 10 days, showing the rise of popularity so quickly. There is a lot of good and bad opinions on how people feel about the new game mode made by Activision and after having personal experiences of playing Call of Duty: Warzone since the game mode was launched, I would like break down a review on the game.
Battle royal games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Players Unknown Battlegrounds has been the games players have been playing for the past years and Call of Duty: Warzone shows they wanted to create a game that was a different type of battle royal in a positive way to get all battle royal players to switch over and they sure did. First, a key that is keeping players intrigued with this game is the in match contracts. Cod Warzone introduce in match contracts that are based on Scavenger hunts to find rarer chest, Bounties on opponents, and Recon to get Intel on the next circle and once any contract is completed, each player on the team earns money to buy objects at the by station. Cod Warzone bringing in match contracts helps players has have a different focus on the match instead of just having players playing the game for more than eliminations which keeps players coming back and wanting to complete more contracts.
Second, the buy stations in Cod Warzone are a new object brought into the battle royal world and they are definitely for the better. As I said before, the money earned during the match can be used to buy certain objects to gain an advantage over the opponents. I believe this was a great thing that was brought into battle royal mode as the buy stations consist of objects like killstreaks, armor, ammo, self-loadout drops, or to buy back teammates. Most people could say this is almost cheating or lazy as a player isn’t earning what they did for those streaks but it actually is a player trying hard to earn up as much cash as they can to be able to buy these rare objects, which I believe has players really looking for money and completing contracts even more. Also, I wanted to breakdown more of what a self-load out drop is and how great it can for you and your teammates. A self-loadout drop can be brought or will drop randomly in a match, almost like a care package in multiple other battle royal game modes but the differences is you pick what guns you want to use which makes this loadout drop even rarer. I know for myself, I’m better with certain guns and when I pick my class from that loadout drop, I believe my team has a much better chance at winning the game. Cod Warzone introducing loadout drops has defiantly been a positive in my experience compared to other battle royal games, whereas I don’t get to choose what gun I want to use.
Lastly, the Gulag, the one on one battle to continue to play. The Gulag is one of the best things that Activision wisely added to this awesome battle royal mode. In other battle royal games, once you are eliminated, your teammates have to reboot you at reboot station if they stay alive and have the chance to. The Gulag in Cod Warzone is a great second chance to come back to the battleground and continue to fight. When you are eliminated in a match you will be sent a chamber to fight in a one on one match versus an opponent who was also eliminated right around the same time you were but you will only be able to get once chance throughout the whole match to fight in the Gulag. If you come out victories in the Gulag, you will be redeployed into the match but you will not have any of your weapons you had before. If you do fail in the Gulag, teammates are still able to buy you back at the buy stations unless they are eliminated already. Cod Warzone having the Gulag has brought a different aspect to the battle royal game mode in a positive way, giving players a good second chance to comeback and continue to fight which is a frustrating thing for many battle royal players as they hate the landing and dying and back to the menu in a lot of matches.
Almost every teenager growing up was huge into Call of Duty games but they slowly have died out as battle royal modes have come out and grabbed everyone’s attention. I assume Activision was trying to one up everyone with the release of Call of Duty: Warzone but with contracts, buy stations, money earned and the Gulag, Activision took over the battle royal gaming world and to me this is just the start and Cod Warzone will just get better through its time.
